Proposed Implementation Authority Index Western Michigan University

Background

We are a Voyager based library with approximately 1.6 million bibliographies. We are very reliant Voyager's Authority Control Index to assist in searching. The authority is LOC and maintained by our staff.

Proposal == We propose the use of a separate solr index to retain our authority records. This index would be assembled from the marc authority file. This index would be searchable both indirectly and dire…

An authority control system is a necessary feature for a discovery interface tool like VuFind. At the current point, no such system exist, but is being planned. Below are the requirements for such a system. To lessen the complexity of the initial development, we are planning to implement authority records for authors and titles at first. The second phase of the project will implement LC subject headings.

You can mostly script the installation of Vufind on Ubuntu. The following details the installation from a “clean” instance of Ubuntu Server.

The first step is to make sure you have the latest patches installed.

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Next, install SSH and the JDK 6 on the server.
